Matlock's new 70 space town centre car park has opened today on the former lido site, ahead of schedule and in time for the extended Jubilee Bank Holiday.

The Lido closed its doors in August last year, ahead of the opening of the Arc leisure centre, and demolition work started last month on the Lido site, built in 1938 as an open air pool.
Deputy Leader of Derbyshire Dales District Council, Councillor Geoff Stevens MBE said, "The completion of the new car park is well timed as Matlock gets set for an increase in the number of people visiting the town in the spring and summer months. We continue to stress that it remains the District Council's long term vision that the former Lido site will be part of redevelopment plans for the Bakewell Road area of the town, but in the meantime we are delighted to be helping town centre traders by creating additional parking spaces while raising revenue from tourists to help maintain the excellent services we provide for the people of the Derbyshire Dales."
Cllr Stevens continued, "The new car park will of course be free of charge to all Derbyshire Dales residents displaying their permits, as with all District Council car parks, before 11am and after 4pm every day".
The entrance and exit for cars is on Imperial Road.
